Felisa's body registered anaphasic signatures from her time with Ronin and was exhumed as part of the investigation and Ronin took control of her, incapacitating Lieutenant Commanders Data and Geordi La Forge. Ronin had attempted to merge with Beverly as well, but Enterprise-D crewmembers investigating the failure of the colony's weather control system nearly uncovered his secret. Their biochemistry allowed him to maintain molecular cohesion, and he used the family candle as a receptacle. Ronin was in fact an anaphasic lifeform who had been living with Howard women for centuries. They had met shortly after Felisa's mother's funeral. While there, she found her grandmother's journals, and discovered that she had a 34-year old lover named Ronin. Beverly, now a Starfleet officer and chief medical officer aboard the starship USS Enterprise-D, returned to Caldos aboard the ship to deliver a eulogy. ( TNG: " Sub Rosa")įelisa was over one hundred years old when she died in 2370, apparently of natural causes. Quint was somewhat aware of Ronin's presence, believing him to be a ghost. While there, she often had resident Ned Quint take care of her affairs. Felisa remained on Caldos after Beverly had left. ( TNG: " Attached")įelisa and Beverly moved to Caldos colony by at least 2342, since that was when Beverly entered Starfleet Academy, subsequently marrying Jack Crusher in 2348. ( TNG: " The Arsenal of Freedom")įelisa often made vegetable soup, including peas and carrots, which Beverly recalled as delicious when she was stranded without food on planet Kesprytt. She passed this knowledge on to Beverly, inspiring her to attend medical school. Both Howards were present for the terrible Arvada III disaster, and it was here that Felisa learned many of her remedies. Felisa, whom Beverly called " Nana," adopted her. ( TNG: " Sub Rosa")įelisa's son, Paul Howard, and his wife, Isabel, died when their daughter, Beverly, was a young girl. Felisa's favorite flower was the camellia – she always kept fresh camellias in her house. She also served as keeper of the Howard family candle and as host for the anaphasic lifeform Ronin, who had been living with Howard women for centuries. Felisa kept detailed journals of her life, going back many years from the time of her death. She was also known for her frank advice and wisdom.
STAR TREK TNG SUB ROSA HOW TO
Although she was not a professional doctor, she had taught herself how to use herbs and roots in place of traditional medications and developed other remedies. Because Beverly discovers that he really wasn’t a ghost, but an alien, she kills him.Felisa Howard was a Human healer from the Caldos colony on Caldos, born in 2270. Are they gonna be able to pull this off?'” Braga: “When I was writing the words, ‘She writhes around in the bed having invisible sex,’ I just thought, ‘Oh man, we’re asking for trouble. She really does just have the hots for this ghost. You may think she’s under some kind of spell, or mind-control, but nothing like that is ever revealed. This ghost is so good at making sweet love that Beverly goes insane when he is not around. Really rolling with the season two vibes. That’s what I’ve been doing wrong! There’s a storm so Enterprise shoots it. A ghost woos Beverly by giving her flowers, and suddenly appearing behind her in a mirror and then vanishing. Don’t know why Beverly is being so uptight about this. Some guy breaks into Beverly’s grandma’s house just to blow out a candle because it was a haunted candle. Notes: Hey remember when there was that colony of Irish stereotypes back in season two? They thought it would be a good idea to do that again, but Scottish. Just sit back, light a candle, and relax while you take in the majesty of Sub Rosa. And of course, if you were worried that it didn’t involve a family member of the crew, ease your mind with the knowledge that Beverly’s grandma turns up. I’m way more up for an incredibly stupid take on gothic romance now than I was growing up I guess.
The notorious Sub Rosa was kinda fun on rewatch, to be honest.
